A child can attend kindergarten after turning 2 years old, up until December 31 of the given year inclusive.
Kindergarten Education in Armenia
A kindergarten is a pre-school educational institution designed for children aged 2 to 5. It is the first educational environment in a child's life, where little ones learn to communicate with their peers, acquire their first life skills, and prepare for the school phase. In kindergarten, children develop their creative, intellectual, and physical abilities.
Kindergarten
There are 2 types of kindergartens in Armenia: public and private.
- Public kindergartens are free of charge and operate on a 5-day schedule, from Monday to Friday.
- Private kindergartens require a specific monthly tuition fee, which may cover transportation to and from the kindergarten, meals, additional extracurricular activities and educational methods, as well as an extended workweek schedule of up to 6 days (Monday to Saturday).
When choosing a kindergarten, you should pay attention to several important factors:
- The distance of the kindergarten from your home;
- The size of the groups;
- Staff qualifications: The qualifications of the educators;
- Sanitary and hygienic conditions;
- The quality of the food;
- The variety and methodology of the educational programs.
Kindergartens typically operate from Monday to Friday, from 08:30 AM to 05:30 PM. Some kindergartens also offer an extended-day option until 06:30 PM.
In kindergarten, children learn:
- Communication skills
- Basic knowledge of numbers and letters
- Drawing and fine motor skills development
- Music and dance
- Knowledge about the environment
- Hygiene rules
- Social etiquette and behavioral norms
In addition to educational, methodological, developmental, and care services, a child can also receive the services of a psychologist and a speech therapist, if needed.
Kindergarten Admission
The kindergarten admission process is regulated by the RA Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sports and is carried out throughout the year, depending on the availability of vacant spots. Through the integrated electronic enrollment system, you can submit an online application and register your child on the kindergarten waiting list. The system operates both in Yerevan and in the regions.
In the online application to register a child on the kindergarten waiting list, you must provide:
- The child's birth certificate or Public Services Number (PSN);
- The passport or ID card of one of the parents;
- A document proving the child's registered address: a passport, a Public Services Number certificate, or a registration certificate issued by the police passport department.
You can submit an application to register your child on the kindergarten waiting list throughout the entire year, as vacant spots are filled on a rolling basis all year round.

Start
When organizing admissions, priority is given to:
- Children of a parent who has a 1st or 2nd-degree disability, has 3 or more children, or is a military servicemember;
- Children with special educational and developmental needs;
- Children who have a sibling already enrolled in the given institution;
- Children of staff members working at the given institution.
An application may be rejected if:
- The data provided by the parent is incomplete or inaccurate;
- The parent submits a written request to withdraw the child from the waiting list;
- The parent cannot be reached via the provided contact information (phone number and email address) within 3 working days from the date their turn arrives. By the way, the records and data confirming these contact attempts are retained in the system for at least 1 year.
For admission to the kindergarten, you may also be required to submit:
- A 3x4 photo;
- An extract from the child's outpatient medical record;
- A certificate confirming the child's special educational and developmental needs, if applicable.
A child can be dismissed from kindergarten if they have been absent for 75 working days during the academic year.
Age groups for children in kindergarten are formed as follows:
- 2-3 years old: 20 children
- 3-4 years old: 30 children
- 4-5 years old: 30 children
- 5-6 years old: 30 children
Attention
The number of children with special educational and developmental needs in a single group cannot exceed 10% of the total number of children enrolled in that group.
